Troubleshooting¶
Error loading BIOS image¶
kat5200 does not know the BIOS/OS file for the current machine.
- Open the System tab and verify the BIOS File (and the OS variant) are set for the selected system.
- If it is empty, browse to the file, or use Scan for ... BIOS in Setup.
Error loading BASIC image¶
Same as BIOS: the 8-bit BASIC File is not set. Set it on the System tab or scan for it.
Error loading ROM image¶
The image file could not be found or read.
- In the Launcher, select the title and check the File field in ROM Options. If it shows (not set), the file has not been located.
- Use Scan for ... ROMs in Setup to locate it.
"No filename set for this ROM"¶
The Launcher entry exists but has no file assigned. Set the File in ROM Options or scan for files.
CPU Crashed — Enter Debugger?¶
This can have several causes; work through them in order:
- Bad ROM dump. Try a different copy of the image.
- SIO patch + disk/cassette. Disable Enable SIO Patch on the System tab (use Save for ROM only to affect just this title).
- BASIC mismatch. Toggle Enable BASIC on/off — some titles need it, most don't. Save it per-ROM with Save for ROM only.
- Wrong cartridge mapping. Set the correct Mapping for the title in ROM Options (default is Auto).
- Unsupported image. If none of the above help, the image may not be supported yet.
A cassette image does nothing on launch¶
After launching a cassette, press the spacebar in the emulation to begin loading.
5200 analog games feel unplayable with a digital stick¶
Tune the analog options in Input:
- Lower Joy Sensitivity to ~50–75%.
- Enable Digital To Analog Enable and set a comfortable Digital To Analog Speed for position-based games (Gorf, Missile Command, Super Breakout).
- Reduce Joy Deadzone to the lowest value that doesn't jitter.
Or just apply the matching game preset in Setup.
Where are my settings, logs, and screenshots?¶
- Configuration:
~/.config/kat5200/kat5200.conf(TOML), unless running in portable mode. The exact path is shown under Options → Misc → Configuration → Directory. - Log file:
kat5200.logis written in the same directory. - Screenshots: saved in the same directory as
.bmpfiles named after the ROM's CRC (e.g.1A2B3C4D.bmp, then1A2B3C4D_01.bmpand so on).
Resetting everything¶
Use Factory Reset (Misc → Configuration) to restore default configuration. Restart the program for it to take effect.
