Troubleshooting and Issues

Errors:

‘Errors about Side by Side assembiles on application startup’

Verify the Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable is installed. If needed, visit https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

‘Errors about Incorrect Configuration on application startup’

See above.

‘Error Loading BIOS image’

This indicates that the emulator is not aware of the BIOS file for the current machine. These are files the user must have on their computer. In the GUI, check Machine->BIOS Files and verify the correct BIOS files have been setup. If not use the Browse button to pick out the BIOS file. Also, BIOS files may be scanned for from Misc->Wizard.

‘Error Loading BASIC image’

See above regarding BIOS files.

‘Error Loading ROM image’

This indicates the emulator was not able to load the desired ROM image. The image must exist on the user’s computer. If attempting to load from the Launcher, select the file and check the File tab at the bottom. If the box is empty, then the file has not been found. Use the Misc->Scan For Files option from the Launcher, or the Misc->Wizard option from the main GUI to scan for files. From the Launcher, the user may use the View->Available option to see the list of images that have been found after scanning.

‘CPU Crashed. Enter Debugger?’

This could mean several things:

• You could have a bad rom dump. Download from another site and re-try.
• Loading a floppy or cassette image with the SIO Patch enabled. Try to disable it and see if that works. You can specify an image not use the patch from the Launcher.
• Loading an 8-bit image with BASIC enabled / disabled. Try toggling this and see if that works. You can specifiy an whether or not an image uses BASIC from the Launcher. Please report images that need BASIC and it is not set in the Launcher by default.
• The emulator is using the wrong mapping for the image. If the user knows the correct mapping for the image, it can be set in the Launcher under the Settings tab. Please report images that are using the wrong mapping.
• The emulator does not support the image. Please report images that don’t work after trying the above suggestions.

Other Issues:

• If nothing happens when launching a cassette image, make sure to hit spacebar to get the image loading.
• SDL Sound using ALSA under Linux is poor and can slow down the emulation tremendously. Use PulseAudio and set the SDL_AUDIODRIVER=pulseaudio
• When using the GameBase frontend with kat5200, make sure your roms do not have dashes in the filename. (ex, "Pac-Man.bin")
